The UK’s path to net-zero is currently obstructed by a universal engineering challenge: the ‘Safety and Risk Gap’. It is a problem that has historically restricted the roll-out of energy storage in our homes and is now manifesting as a critical bottleneck for vital national infrastructure.
In the residential sector, standard battery chemistries ever tightening “exclusion zones”—which we address with our Domestic BESS range. However, the same compromise is evident throughout the value chain. For data centres, hospitals, and retail hubs, the National Fire Chiefs Council now advise 30-metre separation distance between BESS and occupied buildings. That means traditional lithium-ion (NMC/LFP) installations are no longer compatible with the reality of the built environment.
A Blueprint for Off-Grid Resilience The scale of this challenge is most evident in the Argyll AI Data Centre project in Scotland. As the UK’s first sovereign AI infrastructure powered entirely by renewable energy, the site must operate as a fully independent microgrid.
Located at Killellan Farm, the project requires a hyperscale digital infrastructure that can process massive AI workloads off-grid. For a site of this magnitude, energy storage isn’t just a backup—it is the heartbeat of the operation. However, in an environment prioritising sovereign security and environmental gain, traditional battery risks are a non-starter.
How Power-Block Solves the Infrastructure Bottleneck The Titanvolt Power-Block was specifically designed for the Argyll project to address these exact hurdles. It solves the universal “Safety & Resilience Gap” through a combination of technical firsts:
Utilising our best in class Lithium Titanate (LTO) chemistry, the Power-Block is non-flammable and thermally stable. It eliminates the risk of thermal runaway, removing the need for prohibitive exclusion zones and making it suitable for high-density CNI environments.
Dan Goodman, Chief Operating and Strategy Officer at Titanvolt, says:
“The requirement for absolute safety is universal, from a single residential property to a Giga scale data centre. For too long, the industry has worked around the ‘exclusion zone’—a compromise that is no longer compatible with global energy targets. By delivering a non-flammable, thermally stable solution, we are removing that barrier entirely. We aren’t just selling a battery; we are offering a long-term, insurable asset that allows the UK’s most vital services to operate with absolute peace of mind.”

Beyond the Data Centre The Power-Block is part of a wider family of solutions designed to address the “Safety & Risk Gap” across all critical infrastructure. While the Power-Block provides the rapid response required for data centres and UPS, its sibling, the Eco-Block, is engineered for long-life resilience and energy shifting.
Titanvolt is committed to the continuous progression of LTO technology. Our standardised 19-inch rack footprint is designed as an evolvable platform; as OUR battery chemistry improves and energy densities increase, the client’s physical infrastructure remains constant. This ensures that a Titanvolt system installed today remains a permanent, protected, and insurable asset that can be upgraded as our technology advances.
